Smart Mailbox Setup and Automation Tips

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I recently completed to make my mailbox smarter. It’s such a simple yet effective setup that I think many of you might enjoy trying out yourselves.\So, the idea came to me when I realized that our mailbox is located in a part of the house we don’t visit every day. I was worried about missing important packages or letters. That’s when I decided to give it a smart upgrade!\Here’s what I did: I installed an Aquara window/door sensor on the inside flap of the mailbox. This sensor detects when the mailbox is opened or closed. I paired it with a simple automation rule in my smart home app. Whenever the mailbox is opened, I get a push notification on my phone. It’s super handy because I can keep track of when my mail is delivered without having to check the mailbox physically.\But I didn’t stop there! I also added a color sensor to detect the color of the mail. If a blue envelope is detected, it triggers another automation that sends me a special notification, letting me know there’s a bill or important document inside. This feature has been really helpful in organizing my mail.\I’d love to hear from others who have similar setups or creative ideas for enhancing their mailboxes. Have any of you tried something like this? What other sensors or automations do you think could be useful for a smart mailbox?\Let’s keep the ideas flowing and make our homes smarter one step at a time!
