Smart Mirror Project and Sensor Challenges

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent project and some challenges I faced along the way. I’ve been diving into the world of DIY smart home projects, and I’ve got to say, it’s been an exciting journey!

My Smart Mirror Project
I’ve been working on creating a smart mirror using an ESP32 and a TFT display. The goal was to replace our old mirror with something functional and tech-savvy. My girlfriend even joked that it was a Christmas gift for her!

The setup includes a TTGO T4 V1.3 ILI9341 2.4-inch LCD Display with esp32, a one-sided mirror foil, and an old picture frame. The mirror now displays important information like temperature, weather forecast, and even garbage collection schedules. It’s been a fun way to start the day!

Challenges with Sensors
While the mirror project was a success, I’ve encountered some issues with my door sensors. Two of my DSC WS4945 wireless door sensors, which are about ten years old, have been acting up. Sometimes they don’t trigger the alarm tone or show events consistently. It’s been a bit frustrating, but I’ve tried troubleshooting by resetting them and replacing batteries. I’m planning to try replacing the sensors soon if the issue persists.

Tips and Tricks
For anyone looking to integrate older sensors or devices, here are a few tips:

  • Regular Maintenance: Even old devices can work well with proper care. Check batteries and connections regularly.
  • ** Firmware Updates**: Keep an eye out for firmware updates, as they can sometimes resolve unexpected issues.
  • Testing: Always test your setup thoroughly after any changes to ensure everything is working as expected.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully integrated older sensors or have tips for maintaining them. Let’s keep the community spirit alive! :handshake:

Thanks for reading, and happy tinkering! :rocket:
