A bit about my situation: I’m moving into my father’s house in a couple of months, and I want to modernize the heating system. The house is a bit older, built in the 70s, and while it’s been renovated with new windows and updated heating systems, the thermostat setup is still quite basic. I’m aiming to create a system that’s both efficient and user-friendly, especially since my partner and I have irregular schedules.
Here’s what I’m looking for in a thermostat system:
- Ability to control heating in multiple zones (excluding the guest rooms and bathrooms).
- Easy programmability to accommodate our different routines.
- A clean, minimal setup with as few additional wires as possible.
- Integration with my existing PC setup via USB or Wi-Fi.
- Optional features like window detection and expandability for future smart home additions.
I’ve heard great things about brands like Nest and Ecobee, but I’m also open to other options that might offer better value or more advanced features.
