Just wanted to share a fun little smart home idea I tried and it actually works great!
So… I don’t have a fancy smart toilet (yet ), but I still wanted to make my bathroom experience just a little bit smarter — and fresher.
Here’s what I did:
I took an Aqara Door and Window Sensor and stuck the two pieces on the toilet lid and the seat — one on each. Then I connected the sensor to my Aqara Smart Wall Switch (which controls the exhaust fan). Final step: I created an automation in the Aqara Home app — “When toilet lid opens, turn on exhaust fan.”
Result? Every time someone opens the lid, the fan kicks on automatically and starts removing any… unwanted smells.
It’s such a simple setup, but super effective. No more fumbling for switches. No need to upgrade the whole toilet. Just sensors + automation = smart solution!

You can pair the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 with various automations to increase convenience. For example, if you have a thermostat, you could set up an automation to turn it off when a door or window is opened. This could help you save energy and minimize your carbon footprint, especially in those moments when you leave the door open for a bit of fresh air.
Here’s a quick look at how you can set it up:
IF a door or window opens
THEN turn off the thermostat
This setup is not only about convenience but also about being eco-friendly. Remember, the possibilities with Aqara products are vast, and the community is always here to brainstorm more ideas with you! Keep experimenting, and feel free to share your findings.
