I wanted to share my recent success in setting up an automated welcome screen on my TV for client meetings. Here’s how I made it happen!
The Goal:
When I schedule a meeting in my calendar, I wanted my Homey to automatically display a welcome screen on our TV at the entryway. For example, if I have a meeting with Max Schuppert on September 10 at 2 PM, the TV should show a personalized welcome message 15 minutes before the meeting starts.
The Setup:
- Calendar Integration: I linked my calendar to Homey so it can pull meeting details automatically.
- TV Automation: I used the Chromecast integration to control the TV. Homey turns it on 15 minutes before the meeting starts.
- Welcome Screen: I created a simple webpage with the welcome message and hosted it online. Homey navigates to this page on the TV at the scheduled time.
- Timer: The TV stays on for 45 minutes before turning off automatically.
Challenges and Solutions:
- Scheduling: Getting the timing right was tricky, but using Homey’s automation editor made it manageable.
- Webpage Hosting: I used a free hosting service to make the welcome message accessible.
Outcome:
It works perfectly now! My clients are impressed, and it adds a professional touch to our meetings. I’d love to hear if anyone else has similar setups or tips to make this even better!
