SmartPlug Setup for Modem Power Cycling

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an interesting setup I’ve been working on to automate my modem maintenance. I recently went on a vacation, and halfway through, I lost connection to my Homey setup. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that my modem had gone offline despite the ISP tool showing it was online. It turned out to be a classic case of the modem needing a power cycle. My son helped by physically resetting the router and modem, which got everything back online.

This experience made me think: why not automate this process? I decided to connect my modem to a smart plug. The idea is to have the smart plug power cycle the modem every few days, but only if I don’t manually interfere. This way, I can prevent the same issue from happening again when I’m away.

Here’s what I’ve done so far: I’ve set up a flow that monitors the connection status of my Homey. If it detects a loss of connection, it triggers the smart plug to power cycle the modem. I’ve also configured it to cycle the modem every 3 days as a precaution, even if everything seems fine.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has implemented something similar or has tips on improving this setup. Maybe there’s a more efficient way to monitor the modem’s health without relying solely on connection status. Any suggestions or alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
