SmartThings Automated Laser Dance Lights for Kids

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an exciting project I recently completed for my kids—a fully automated laser dance light system in our playroom. It all started when my wife suggested getting a simple rotating disco light, but I thought why not take it to the next level with smart home automation? :tada:

I mounted two laser dance lights on the wall and connected them to Z-Wave outlets. The magic happens through a combination of Google Routines, IFTTT, and a SmartThings scene. When I say, “Dance Party” to Google Assistant, it responds with “Let’s get this party started!” and then turns off all the lights in the basement while activating the laser lights and casting our Spotify dance playlist to our sound system.

One of my favorite features is the virtual switch I created called “Pause Motion.” This allows us to stop the lights from automatically turning off while the dance party is ongoing. The system also has a failsafe: if the lights are accidentally turned on, they’ll stay off for 15 seconds before resuming. And if no motion is detected for 30 minutes, the lights automatically shut off. It’s been a huge hit with the kids, and I love how it combines technology with a fun family activity!

If anyone has questions or wants to share their own creative automation projects, feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear what you’re working on! :notes::sparkles:
