After recently transitioning from the Wink hub to the SmartThings platform, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the ecosystem’s openness and the ability to integrate my Belkin light switches seamlessly. However, I’ve encountered a challenge that I’d like to discuss and seek advice on regarding the SmartThings app’s usability, particularly for less tech-savvy users like my wife.
The transition from Wink was smooth, especially since the Wink app was quite intuitive for my wife. The ability to group lights and control them with simple gestures made it a breeze for her to use. Now, with SmartThings, while the functionality is there, the interface feels a bit cluttered and less intuitive. Specifically, the dimming feature for our bedroom lights has been a point of confusion.
We have three GE Link bulbs grouped under the “Bedroom” label. Turning them on and off is straightforward, but dimming requires navigating through multiple menus, which my wife finds frustrating. I’m curious if there’s a way to streamline this process, perhaps by creating a shortcut or a more intuitive dashboard view that allows for easier dimming without delving into the app’s deeper settings.
I’d love to hear from other users who’ve successfully customized their SmartThings setup to make it more user-friendly, especially for family members who aren’t as tech-oriented. Any tips or workarounds would be greatly appreciated! Let’s collaborate to make smart home technology accessible and enjoyable for everyone. ![]()
