Hello everyone, I’m new to the Smartthings ecosystem and I’m trying to decide whether to go with the V2 or V3 Hub. I’ve read through some reviews and forums, but I’m still a bit confused about the differences and which one would be better for my setup. Let me share my thoughts and maybe someone can provide some insights or recommendations.
First, I want to understand the main differences between the V2 and V3 Hubs. From what I gather, the V3 Hub offers improved performance, better connectivity, and some additional features. However, it’s significantly more expensive than the V2 model. I’m curious to know if the V2 is still a good option, especially since it’s more affordable. Is the V2 future-proof? Will it continue to receive regular updates? Samsung mentioned that the V2 is compatible with the SmartThings Classic App, but I’m not sure how that compares to the new Android app.
Another concern is compatibility with existing devices. I have a mix of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, and I want to ensure that the Hub I choose will work seamlessly with all of them. I’ve heard that interference can be an issue when multiple hubs are in close proximity, especially with Zigbee and Z-Wave signals. I’m planning to place the Hub near my Google Mesh access point and the existing ST Hub. Is there any concern about interference, or is this a common setup that works well?
I’m also interested in the recovery mode issue that some users have experienced with the Home Center Lite. I want to make sure that whatever Hub I choose is reliable and doesn’t get stuck in recovery mode. Has anyone encountered this problem with the V2 or V3 Hubs?
Lastly, I’m curious about the user experience with both Hubs. Are there any significant differences in terms of ease of use, app functionality, or integration with other smart home platforms? I want to make an informed decision that will provide me with a seamless and enjoyable smart home experience.
I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. Whether it’s about the V2 vs V3 debate, placement tips, compatibility concerns, or general recommendations, your insights would be invaluable. Thanks in advance for your help!
