I recently purchased four SmartThings Multipurpose Sensors, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips for anyone considering these devices. While two of them worked perfectly out of the box, I encountered some issues with the other two that I thought might be worth discussing.
The first sensor I noticed had some delays in sending open/closed readings, although it responded quickly to vibration. The second sensor was even more problematic—it wouldn’t send any open/closed readings at all, despite working fine for vibration and temperature. At first, I wondered if these were defective units, but after some research and troubleshooting, I found a simple solution!
I decided to try resetting both sensors by removing them from my SmartThings setup and re-adding them. Surprisingly, this fixed the issue completely! The sensors now work as intended, and I couldn’t be happier with their performance. It’s a relief to know that sometimes a simple reset can resolve what seems like a hardware issue.
For anyone else experiencing similar problems, I’d recommend trying a factory reset or re-adding the sensor to your ecosystem. It’s also worth noting that these sensors are incredibly versatile, supporting temperature, vibration, and contact detection. They’ve become an essential part of my smart home setup, and I’m glad I gave them another chance after the initial hiccup.
If you have any questions or tips about these sensors, feel free to share them below! Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
