Hi everyone, I recently got my hands on the SmartThings platform and I must say, it’s been a fantastic experience so far. However, I’ve noticed something that could use a bit of tweaking, and I thought I’d share my thoughts and see if anyone else has encountered the same issue or has any suggestions.
One of the features I love about SmartThings is the ability to monitor various sensors around my home. Specifically, the multi-sense open-close sensors that track temperature and vibration have been quite useful. However, I’ve noticed that the activity feed in SmartThings is getting flooded with temperature updates from these sensors every two minutes. While the data is certainly useful, the constant updates make it difficult to sift through and find the relevant information. Moreover, I’m a bit concerned about the impact this frequent polling might have on the battery life of these sensors.
It would be fantastic if there were an option to adjust the polling frequency for these sensors. Perhaps a setting where I could choose how often I want temperature updates to be recorded and displayed. This would not only make the activity feed cleaner but could also help preserve battery life, which is a big plus for battery-operated devices.
Another feature I’d love to see is the ability to display the temperature readings directly on the SmartThings dashboard. Instead of having to scroll through the cluttered activity feed, having the temperature information prominently displayed on the dashboard would be incredibly convenient. Maybe even integrating it into the sensor’s icon with a color-coded indicator for quick reference.
I also noticed that the Android app for SmartThings is undergoing a redesign to resemble the iOS version. While I appreciate the effort to create a more unified user experience, I hope some of the features from the current Android app, like the battery level display, are retained. Being able to see the battery status of my sensors at a glance has been invaluable, especially when planning ahead for replacements.
I’m curious to know if anyone else has faced similar issues or has any workarounds they’d be willing to share. Have you adjusted polling frequencies for your sensors, or do you have tips for managing the activity feed? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights!
Best regards,
