SmartWings Motor Shades Integration and Troubleshooting Tips

I recently installed 22 SmartWings Motor Shades in my home, and it’s been an amazing experience! These shades are Zigbee capable, which is fantastic for seamless integration with my smart home ecosystem. However, I noticed that the generic Zigbee shade driver didn’t fully support all features, especially grouping and scenes. After some research, I found a custom driver that added the necessary capabilities, allowing me to control the shades through Alexa and group them with other devices. This was a huge win for my home automation setup!

While I’m thrilled with the results, I’m still working on getting the battery level readings accurate. If anyone has experience with Zigbee battery level reporting, I’d love to hear your insights or tips!

On a different note, I’ve been struggling with my Harmony Hub integration. It stopped connecting to my Schlage door lock and ecobee3 sensors, while other devices like my Lutron Caseta lights still work fine. The activities buttons on the remote are functional, but the door lock and thermostat aren’t responding. Has anyone encountered this issue or have any troubleshooting suggestions?

Lastly, I wanted to share a tip for anyone setting up Docker containers for their OpenHAB dashboard. I found that linking the PostgreSQL database to the Dashing container was tricky, especially on a Synology NAS. Using the --link option in Docker helped establish the necessary connection. If you’re facing similar issues, I recommend checking out the official Docker documentation for more details.

Overall, my journey with these devices has been mostly positive, and I’m excited to continue exploring their capabilities. If anyone has additional tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!
