I bought a smoke detector a few months ago. It worked perfectly until yesterday. A false alarm triggered itself and the detector won’t come back to its normal state ever since. If I let the battery inside of the detector, the alarm rings every 10 minutes. Any idea about what’s happening and what I can do to solve the issue ? Thx
I’m sorry to hear about the trouble with your smoke detector. Based on the information available, it seems like your device might be experiencing a persistent false alarm. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:
Silence the Alarm: You can silence the smoke alarm by pressing the silence/self-test button on the device. Alternatively, if you have the Aqara mobile app, you can click on the “silence” button on the device’s alarm page.
Check for False Alarm Causes: Common causes for false alarms include cooking fumes, steam, humid weather causing condensation, incense, or the use of air fresheners and insecticides. Ensure that the environment around the detector is clear of these factors.
Battery Check: If the alarm rings every 10 minutes, it might be signaling a low battery or another fault. Ensure the battery is properly installed and consider replacing it if necessary.
Self-Test: Perform a self-test by holding down the silence/self-test button for more than 3 seconds. The indicator should flash red, yellow, and green in sequence, accompanied by three beeps. This confirms that the self-test is normal.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be a detector malfunction. In such cases, it’s advisable to contact after-sales service for further assistance.
Feel free to share any updates or further questions, and let us know how it goes!
Hello, could you provide more information? For example, how long have you been using it before encountering the issue? What platform or app are you using?Did you perform any operations before the issue occurred?Thank you.
@flo11 Hi there! Let’s try to figure out what’s going on with your smoke detector.
First, false alarms can be triggered by factors like cooking fumes, steam, condensation, or dust buildup (content_id:1, content_id:8). If the detector keeps alarming every 10 minutes, it might be because the cause of the false alarm (like residual smoke or dust) is still present, making it think the smoke concentration is above the threshold.
Here are some steps to try:
Remove the detector from the area where the false alarm occurred (e.g., away from the kitchen or humid spaces) to see if the smoke concentration drops below the threshold.
Press the silence/self-test button to silence the alarm temporarily. If the hazard is eliminated, the detector should return to normal after 10 minutes (content_id:1).
Clean the detector cover with a dry lint cloth or brush to remove dust or residue, as buildup can cause continuous false alarms (content_id:2).
Check the battery: If the yellow indicator flashes once every 48 seconds with one beep, it might be a low battery—replace it with a new CR17450 battery and perform a self-test (hold the silence button for 3 seconds until the indicator flashes red, yellow, green) (content_id:5, content_id:7).
If the issue persists, especially if the yellow indicator flashes three times every 48 seconds with three beeps, it could indicate a detector failure. In that case, contact after-sales service for further help (content_id:0, content_id:3).
Hope this helps! Let us know if you try these steps and how it goes.
@flo11 Hi there! Let’s try to figure out what’s going on with your smoke detector.
First, false alarms can be triggered by several common conditions like residual cooking fumes, steam, condensation, or dust buildup inside the detector . Since the alarm rings every 10 minutes, it might be related to the silence function: when a fire hazard is eliminated, pressing the silence/self-test button silences the buzzer for 10 minutes. If the detector still detects a condition above the threshold after that, it could reactivate the alarm .
Here are some steps to try:
Check the area for any lingering smoke, steam, or fumes that might be causing the detector to sense a hazard.
Gently clean the detector cover with a brush or dry lint cloth to remove dust or dirt—this helps prevent false alarms from buildup .
Press the silence/self-test button to see if it resets the alarm state. If the issue persists, it might be worth checking if the battery is properly installed (though low battery typically causes a yellow flash once every 48 seconds, not frequent alarms) [“content_id”:3, “content_id”:9].
If none of these work, it’s possible there’s a deeper issue. For further help, you can contact the after-sales service as mentioned in the fault instructions [“content_id”:0, “content_id”:1].
Hope this helps—let us know if you try these steps and how it goes!
Hey, I’ve got a similar issue, after few months of owning this product, it started firing false alarms randomly every few hours. So I’ve thoroughly cleaned it and put it back, but it soon started again with the false alarms. After like 48 hours I’ve removed the battery, because it was unbearable the repeated noise. Then I returned it and got a new one. Few hours and we’re back with false alarm please help
