Solving Camera Placement Challenges on the Farm

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a bit about my recent project setting up Wyze cameras on my farm. It’s been quite an adventure! :star2:

I recently purchased 7 Wyze Pan Cameras to monitor my barn during kidding and lambing season. The goal was to keep an eye on the animals while I’m doing other tasks around the farm. Initially, everything worked perfectly when I set them up at my house, but when I moved them to the barn, I ran into some issues. The cameras wouldn’t turn on, and I kept getting an ‘operation failed’ error message. It was frustrating, especially since I needed them up and running within a few days for the births.

After some research and troubleshooting, I realized the issue was with the Wi-Fi setup. I was using a Wi-Fi repeater to extend the signal to the barn, but it seemed the cameras weren’t getting a strong enough connection. My son had also changed the name of my house Wi-Fi, which threw off one of the cameras in the house—it couldn’t find the network anymore!

Here’s what I did to fix it:

  1. Reset the Network Settings: For the camera in the house, I had to perform a factory reset. I held down the power button for 10 seconds until the LED turned red, then released it. This reset the network settings, and I was able to set it up again with the new Wi-Fi name.

  2. Strengthen the Wi-Fi Signal at the Barn: I moved the Wi-Fi repeater closer to the barn and adjusted its position to get a stronger signal. I also made sure the repeater was placed in a location with minimal interference.

  3. Set Up Cameras on Site: Instead of trying to configure them remotely, I set up each camera at the barn location first. This ensured they connected properly to the extended Wi-Fi network before I moved them to their final positions.

  4. Test Each Camera Individually: I tested each camera one by one to make sure they were working before setting them up permanently. This helped me catch any issues early on.

Now, all the cameras are up and running, and I can monitor the barn from my phone. It’s been a huge help, especially during this busy time of year! :sheep::sparkles:

If anyone else is having trouble with camera placement, especially in challenging locations, I’d recommend checking the Wi-Fi strength and trying a factory reset if the network settings seem off. It’s also a good idea to set up devices in their final location whenever possible.

Happy farming (and automating) everyone! :ear_of_rice:
