Hi all, I wanted to share my recent experiences with setting up my home automation system. I recently added a second Wi-Fi router to offload and isolate my smart home and media server traffic. At first, I encountered some packet drops and general slowness on the new subnet. After weeks of troubleshooting, I discovered that switching the router from dual 20/40Mhz Wi-Fi to just 20Mhz resolved the issue. It’s amazing how a simple setting change can make such a big difference! ![]()
I also wanted to talk about my journey with configuring Emulated Hue for both Amazon Echo and Google Home devices. I’ve had Emulated Hue working with my Amazon Echo dots for a while now, but when I added a Google Home device, I ran into some challenges. I followed the forum advice and added the necessary lines to my configuration.yaml file, but the Google Home app still didn’t detect any new ‘lights’.
After some digging, I realized that the port settings were causing issues. I adjusted the configuration to ensure both devices could communicate properly. It was a bit frustrating at times, but the satisfaction of getting everything working smoothly made it all worth it! ![]()
If anyone else is dealing with similar issues, I’d be happy to share my configuration details or troubleshoot together. Let’s keep the community spirit alive! ![]()
