Somfy Tahoma Switch Integration Success Story

After spending countless hours researching and troubleshooting, I’m thrilled to share my success story with integrating my Somfy Tahoma Switch into SmartThings! :tada:

The Challenge:
Like many of you, I recently moved into a new home in the EU and decided to upgrade my outdoor blinds with Somfy IO motors. The goal was to seamlessly integrate everything into my existing SmartThings ecosystem. However, I quickly realized that the IO motors weren’t compatible with US radios, and the Tahoma Switch was too new to have any existing handlers. Talk about a hurdle!

The Journey:
I reached out to Somfy support, and they suggested using a USB ZWave stick with the Tahoma Switch to act as a ZWave hub. While this was a creative solution, I wasn’t sure if it would work in reverse—connecting the Switch to my Aeotec v3 hub and then to my blinds. I decided to give it a shot, and after some trial and error, it finally clicked!

The Solution:
Here’s what worked for me:

  1. USB ZWave Stick Setup: I purchased a USB ZWave stick and connected it to my Tahoma Switch. This allowed the Switch to communicate with my existing Aeotec v3 hub.
  2. SmartThings Integration: I used the SmartThings app to add the Tahoma Switch as a new device. It recognized the ZWave connection and paired seamlessly with my Aeotec hub.
  3. Testing: I tested the integration by manually opening and closing the blinds through the SmartThings app. The results were nothing short of amazing—everything worked perfectly!

The Outcome:
Thanks to this setup, I now have full control over my outdoor blinds directly from my smartphone. It’s incredibly convenient, especially during those lazy weekends when I don’t feel like getting up to adjust the blinds manually.

Final Thoughts: This experience taught me that with a little creativity and persistence, even the most challenging integrations can be overcome. If you’re facing similar issues, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to share more details or troubleshoot with you!

Cheers to making our homes smarter, one integration at a time! :rocket:
