I’ve recently moved into a new home in the Czech Republic and decided to invest in some smart home solutions. One of my key projects was installing outdoor Venetian blinds using Somfy IO motors connected to the Somfy Tahoma Switch hub. While the setup itself was straightforward, integrating everything with SmartThings has been a bit of a challenge.
The main issue I’ve encountered is that the IO motors aren’t natively supported in the US market, which complicates things a bit. I reached out to Somfy’s technical support, and they suggested using a USB Z-Wave stick to turn the Tahoma Switch into a Z-Wave hub. However, I’m not entirely sure if this will work seamlessly in the opposite direction—connecting the Tahoma Switch to my existing Aeotec v3 SmartThings hub and then controlling all the blinds through that setup.
I understand that many others in the community might be facing similar challenges, especially with the rise in home automation investments due to circumstances like the pandemic. It would be fantastic to find a solution that allows a French company’s products to integrate smoothly into EU-based systems. If anyone has experience or insights on how to achieve this, I’d greatly appreciate your input!
This project is really important to me, and I’m determined to make it work. Let’s hope we can figure this out together!
