Sonoff Mini R2 Automation Success Story

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success with setting up an automation using the Sonoff Mini R2 and Home Assistant. It’s been a fun project and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

I’ve been using Home Assistant on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ for a while now, and I wanted to add a failsafe for my air conditioning system. The idea was simple: if the AC goes offline due to a power outage, I wanted my ceiling fan to kick in after a few minutes and then turn off again once the AC comes back online.

I followed a guide to flash the Sonoff Mini R2 with ESPHome firmware, making sure to configure it as a fan instead of a light. The Hall Effect Sensor was key in detecting the power outage, and I set up an automation in Home Assistant to handle the switching. I was a bit nervous about the setup, but everything worked out perfectly!

The best part is how seamless it all runs. During a recent power outage, the fan came on exactly as planned, providing some much-needed relief. And once the power was restored, the fan turned off automatically without any issues. It’s such a small thing, but it really adds peace of mind.

I’m now looking into other ways to integrate my Sonoff devices for even more smart home automation. If anyone has tips or suggestions, I’m all ears!
