Storage path of a NAS

Hi,

I am running into a problem using a NAS as storage for video-files of my 5G Pro WLAN Webcam.

I have successfully connected the NAS (which is based on a Fritzbox 7690) to the Aqara Home app. However I can not select a specific path on that NAS: Only the root of the NAS can be selected. There a directory “aqara_video” is created. This leads to a serious limitation: The root-directory only provides 1,5GByte of storage. An attached 1TByte HDD is handeled as a sub-directory in that NAS, however this sub-directory can not be selected within the app.

Anyon faced a similar situation? Is theer any workaround fort this?

(I am wondering, why the path can not be changed as there is a dedicated function “change storyge path” within the Aqara Home app.

Thx. Werner

Could you set up a symlink from the aqara_video folder to a folder on the HDD?

Go to the G5 settings and press the “Remove the NAS storage device” button.
Delete, rename or move all folders named “aqara_video” on the NAS.

Then, unplug the USB device from the FritzBox and plug it into a PC. Rename the USB storage device to “aqara_video”. Then plug the storage device back into the FritzBox.

In your browser, go to http:// fritz.box /nas# (remove the spaces from the URL) and check whether the “aqara_video” folder appears with a USB icon, as shown in the image.

It is essential that the user account used to access the NAS has unrestricted access and is not limited to specific subfolders.

Then set up the NAS storage device again in the G5 and select “FRITZ.NAS” as the folder. Then check that the videos have been saved to the USB device.

Hi John,

thank you for your advise for the workaround. It is working as described. In fact I have attached a USB-HUB to the Fritzbox allowing to connect to drives to the NAS. The second one (a simple USB-memory-stick) ist only used to store the Aqara-videos. By doing so I can leave the remaining instalation untouched without changing drive-names and the storage is limited to the capacity of the USB-memory-stick not interfering with the HDD-storage which is used for various other topics.

So: problem solved.

Thank you and have a good start in 2026

Hi absent,

no, unfortunately it is not supported by the NAS-functionality of the Fritzbox to setup symbolic links. The issue has been solved in the meantime with a hint from John described in his answer. This workaround is fine for me even though it would be the better solution if aqara is adding the function to define a folder by choice in the NAS.

Thx, Werner
