After years of relying on Magenta Smarthome, I decided it was time for a change. The constant bugs with Google Home integration and the lack of flexibility were driving me crazy. I wanted a system that would give me more control and better compatibility with other smart home ecosystems. So, I took the plunge and migrated my devices to the Homematic CCU3 system.
The process wasn’t without its challenges. Some of my HM-CC-RT-DN thermostats and HM-Sec-SCo sensors were stubborn about learning on the new CCU3. I had to unlearn and relearn them multiple times, which was frustrating. But with persistence, they finally connected.
One of the biggest wins was integrating my ZigBee devices with the Philips Hue bridge. It wasn’t perfect—some older devices like the Bitron Home Smart Plug didn’t work out of the box—but overall, it was a smooth transition. I also upgraded my security setup by switching to HmIP-ASIR-2 sirens, which are much more reliable than the old system.
Sprachsteuerung (voice control) is now a breeze with Google Home Assistant, and the CCU3’s programming flexibility has opened up a whole new world of automation possibilities. I’m especially impressed with how quickly the system responds to commands and how seamlessly it integrates with other platforms.
For anyone considering a similar migration, my advice is to take it one step at a time. Test each device thoroughly before moving on to the next.
