Successful Migration from Osram Lightify to Philips Hue

After spending quite some time researching and experimenting, I successfully migrated my lighting system from Osram Lightify to Philips Hue. Let me share my experience and some tips for anyone considering a similar switch!

Why the Switch?
I found the Lightify Hub to be quite picky about which components it supported, and the app felt a bit basic. On the other hand, Philips Hue offers a wider range of features and better app integration, which really appealed to me.

The Process

  1. Preparation: I made sure all my Lightify devices were in good working condition. I also ensured my Hue Bridge was set up and connected to my network.
  2. Device Deletion: In the Lightify app, I individually deleted each device from my setup. This was a bit tedious, but necessary.
  3. Reactivation: Once deleted, each device automatically entered pairing mode. I then added them one by one in the Hue app.
  4. Testing: I tested each device to ensure they were fully functional with Hue. Most worked seamlessly, though I had to power cycle a few plugs.

Supported Devices

  • Lightify E14/E27 lamps in warm white and adjustable color temperature
  • RGBW LED stripes
  • Smart plugs

Unsupported Devices

  • Lightify 3-way and 4-way switches
  • Lightify motion sensors

Final Thoughts
While the Hue app requires creating separate rooms for each device (which I find a bit inconvenient), the overall experience is much smoother. The Hue Labs feature is a great addition, especially for customizing scenes like fireplace lighting. I’m thoroughly satisfied with the switch and would recommend it to anyone looking for more versatile smart lighting options!
