Hey everyone! I wanted to share my success story with configuring the Foscam FI8908W camera in SmartThings. I’ve been trying to get this camera integrated into my smart home setup for a while now, and I finally cracked it! Here’s how I did it:
First, I installed the Panasonic IP Camera plugin as suggested in some forums. Then, I went through the device setup process, assigning it to a room and configuring the IP address, username, and password. The tricky part was getting the pan/tilt/zoom controls to work properly. After some research, I found that modifying the I_PanasonicPTZ.xml file was the key. I adjusted the command paths to match the Foscam’s API endpoints, and voilà! The camera started responding to my commands.
I also managed to set up motion detection and input alarms, which adds an extra layer of security to my home. The best part? I can now control the camera’s movements and monitor my property all from the SmartThings app on my phone.
This achievement has really boosted my confidence in working with smart devices. I’m now looking into adding more cameras and sensors to enhance my home security system. A huge thank you to the community for all the helpful guides and troubleshooting tips! ![]()
