Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent success in connecting my Govee lights to Home Assistant using Matter. I’ve been struggling with this for a while, but I finally figured it out, and I thought I’d walk through the process in case anyone else is facing the same challenge. ![]()
First, I’ll start by outlining the steps I took to make this work:
- Reset the Device: I removed the light from the Govee app and held down the power button while pressing the middle button 4 times. This reset the device and put it into discovery mode.
- Reconnect via Govee App: I added the device back into the Govee app and configured it for my Wi-Fi network. It’s important to ensure that IPv6 is enabled on your router for this to work properly.
- QR Code Setup: In the Govee app, I navigated to the Matter section and copied the QR code. I used a secondary device to scan this QR code through the Home Assistant companion app.
- Pairing in Home Assistant: Once the QR code was scanned, I initiated the pairing process in Home Assistant. The key step here was giving the device a quick press on the power button just before starting the integration. This ensured the device was in pairing mode.
- Successful Integration: After following these steps, the device was successfully added to Home Assistant via Matter!
I was thrilled when everything worked out, especially since I was able to avoid using APIs and still maintain full control over my Govee devices. It’s a great feeling to overcome a technical challenge and find a smooth, integrated solution!
If anyone else is struggling with connecting their Govee lights, I hope this guide helps. Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything else I can assist with! ![]()
