Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with resolving Z-Wave device inclusion issues, as I believe it might help others facing similar challenges.
Earlier this year, I encountered difficulties adding new Z-Wave devices to my Homey setup. Despite following the instructions meticulously, the inclusion process would often time out without success. After some research, I discovered that this issue could be related to ‘abandoned’ devices lingering in the system, which prevents new devices from being properly added.
Here’s how I resolved it:
- Access the Developer Tools: Navigate to https://tools.developer.homey.app/ and go to the Z-Wave section.
- Identify Abandoned Devices: Look for devices listed as ‘unknown nodes.’ These are devices that were not properly included or removed.
- Test and Remove: For each ‘unknown node,’ click the three dots on the right, select ‘Test,’ and wait for the system response. Once confirmed as non-responsive, click ‘Remove.’
- Repeat: Continue this process until all ‘unknown nodes’ are removed.
- Attempt Inclusion Again: After clearing the system, try adding your new devices again. This time, the process should complete successfully.
I found this method incredibly effective. It’s important to note that removing ‘unknown nodes’ doesn’t affect your existing devices, so there’s no risk of losing functionality.
I hope this solution helps others who might be struggling with similar issues. Happy automating! ![]()
