Hi everyone!
I wanted to share my recent success in setting up a multi-room audio system using Home Assistant. I’ve been experimenting with different configurations for a while, and I’m thrilled to finally get everything working smoothly! The Challenge: I wanted a system that could play music throughout my house, with the ability to control each room individually or group them together. I also wanted to add a fun feature for chimed announcements, like reminders or alerts. The Solution: After some research, I decided to go with VLC Player installed on my endpoints, paired with Home Assistant and some handy integrations like browser_mod and lovelace-multiple-entity-row. The setup was surprisingly straightforward once I got the hang of it! Here’s what I did: - Installed VLC Player on all my devices. - Set up a radio mode for continuous music playback. - Created an announcement mode using Google Text-to-Speech for chimed alerts. The Results: The system works beautifully! I can now: - Play music in one room while listening to podcasts in another. - Group multiple rooms together for parties or movie nights. - Schedule announcements for daily routines or special reminders. What Others Can Learn: If you’re looking to create a similar setup, I recommend starting with the VLC Player integration and exploring the browser_mod for enhanced control. It’s a cost-effective way to enjoy high-quality audio throughout your home. I’d love to hear how others have tackled multi-room audio setups!
