Successfully Integrated My Siedle Doorbell with Home Assistant

I’m thrilled to share my recent success in integrating my Siedle 511-0 door intercom system with Home Assistant! After some research and experimentation, I managed to set up a system where I receive notifications on my smartphone whenever someone rings the doorbell. This integration has significantly enhanced my home security and convenience.

My setup involved using a water leak sensor and a relay to trigger the Home Assistant events. I installed the relay in series in the return line of the doorbell, specifically at terminal 7. Initially, I used a DC relay with a diode, but I later switched to an AC relay for better compatibility with the Siedle system’s 12-14V AC operation. This change made the system more reliable, ensuring that the doorbell trigger event was recognized correctly by the circuit board.

One thing I learned is the importance of choosing the right type of relay for the application. The AC relay worked seamlessly, whereas the DC relay had some issues with certain tones. It was a valuable lesson that saved me from potential headaches down the line.

I’d love to hear from others who have integrated their doorbell systems with Home Assistant. What methods did you use? Have you encountered any unique challenges or found innovative solutions? I’m always eager to learn and improve my setup!

This project has been incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to exploring more smart home integrations in the future. Happy tinkering everyone!
