After struggling for weeks to connect my Fibaro RGBW Controller to my SmartThings hub, I finally found a solution! Here’s how I did it, in case anyone else is facing the same issue.
First, I tried using the default Fibaro RGBW Controller device type in SmartThings, but it didn’t work. The lights would flash and then turn off, with an error message about a network or server issue. Frustrated, I searched online and found a custom device handler created by richb1 on GitHub. I downloaded it and installed it through the SmartThings IDE, but the same problem persisted.
What finally worked was ensuring that the Fibaro controller was properly included in the Zigbee network. I followed these steps:
- Reset the Fibaro Controller: Hold down the reset button for at least 10 seconds until the LED starts blinking rapidly.
- Exclude and Re-Include: Exclude the device from SmartThings and then re-include it, making sure it’s within 1 meter of the hub during pairing.
- Check Connections: Ensure the RGBW strip is correctly connected to the Fibaro controller, referencing the included instructions.
- Test Individually: Control the lights directly through the Fibaro app to confirm they’re working before integrating with SmartThings.
Now, my RGBW strip works seamlessly with SmartThings, and I can automate it just like any other smart device. It’s such a relief to finally have everything connected properly!
