I’ve been on a mission to create a seamless smart home experience, and one of the key features I wanted was for Alexa to notify me whenever the Google Nest doorbell rings. Initially, I thought it would be straightforward, but I quickly realized it wasn’t as simple as just enabling a skill.
After some research, I discovered that while there isn’t a direct skill for this integration, there are workarounds using third-party services like IFTTT or Lambda functions. I decided to try the Lambda function approach since it offered more customization.
The process involved setting up an AWS account, creating a Lambda function, and linking it to my Google Nest and Alexa devices. It took a bit of tweaking, especially with the security settings and ensuring the right permissions were in place, but once everything was connected, it worked like a charm!
Now, whenever someone presses the Nest doorbell, Alexa immediately alerts me, even if I’m in another room. It’s fantastic because it adds an extra layer of convenience and security to my home. I’m really happy with how this integration turned out and would recommend it to anyone looking to bridge their Google and Amazon ecosystems.
If anyone else is tackling a similar project or has questions about the setup, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to share more details or troubleshoot any issues you might encounter. Happy integrating! ![]()
