I recently embarked on a project to integrate my Aqara push buttons with my MyQ Chamberlain garage door, and I’m thrilled to share my success story! ![]()
After discovering that MyQ no longer supports direct HomeKit integration, I wondered if the Aqara push buttons could serve as a workaround. The idea was to place a button near my front door, allowing me to open or close the garage door with a simple press. Initially, it seemed a bit daunting, but I was determined to make it work!
Here’s what I did:
-
Research and Setup: I started by researching how to bridge the gap between Aqara and MyQ. After some digging, I found that integrating through Home Assistant (HA) was the way to go. I configured the Aqara hub to work with HA and set up the necessary automations.
-
Testing: The first few attempts were a bit hit or miss. I had to tweak the automation rules in HA to ensure the garage door responded correctly to the button presses. It was a learning process, but each adjustment brought me closer to the desired outcome.
-
Success!: After a couple of days of tweaking, it finally worked! Now, I can press the Aqara button on my way in or out, and the garage door responds seamlessly. It’s such a convenient addition to my smart home setup!
Tips for Others:
- Documentation: Make sure to thoroughly review the documentation for both Aqara and MyQ integrations in HA.
- Automation Rules: Spend time fine-tuning your automation rules to ensure smooth operation.
- Community Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to forums or communities if you run into roadblocks. There’s a wealth of knowledge out there!
This project has been a fantastic learning experience and has added a whole new level of convenience to my daily routine. If you’re looking to achieve something similar, I highly recommend giving it a try! ![]()
