Hello everyone,
I’ve been on a journey to integrate my Google Nest Hub into my Home Assistant setup, and I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is facing similar challenges.
First off, I absolutely love the convenience that Google Nest Hub offers. It’s amazing how it can control my smart home devices, play music, and provide news updates all in one place. However, I ran into an issue where the Nest Hub kept switching back to its original language, German, even though I’ve set everything else in my home network to English. This was quite frustrating because I don’t speak German and it made using the device a bit cumbersome.
After some research and troubleshooting, I found that the issue was with the device’s language settings. The Nest Hub was defaulting to German, which was the language it was sold in, despite my Home Assistant being configured in English. I discovered that there’s a specific way to change the language settings directly on the Nest Hub, bypassing the Google Home app. Here’s what I did:
- Access Device Settings: I went into the Nest Hub’s settings by swiping right on the home screen and selecting the gear icon.
- Language Adjustment: Under the general settings, I found the language option and changed it to English. This was a bit tricky because the menu was still in German, but I managed to figure it out by trial and error.
- Reboot the Device: After changing the language, I rebooted the Nest Hub to ensure the settings took effect.
Since making these changes, the Nest Hub has stayed in English, and I haven’t encountered any further issues. It’s now seamlessly integrated into my Home Assistant ecosystem, and I can control all my devices without any language barriers.
I wanted to share this solution because I know how frustrating it can be when devices don’t behave as expected. Hopefully, this helps someone else who’s dealing with a similar problem. If anyone has questions or needs further assistance, feel free to reach out!
Happy automating!
Best regards,
