After some initial challenges with setting up Home Assistant using the Cloudflare AddOn, I wanted to share my experience and solution. I recently switched domains and encountered an issue where the Home Assistant Companion App couldn’t connect over the new Cloudflare tunnel. The error message I received was ‘The Home Assistant certificate authority is not trusted.’
Through some research, I discovered that the issue relates to certificate setups differing between Chrome and Android apps. Initially, I didn’t have to deal with certificates when setting up with my old domain, but this time, it was a different story. I explored the Cloudflare dashboard extensively but didn’t find a straightforward way to download a certificate for installation on my phone.
After some trial and error, I found that using a self-signed certificate and manually installing it on my device resolved the issue. This process wasn’t intuitive, but it worked perfectly. Now, I can access Home Assistant seamlessly using the Companion App, just like I did with my old domain.
If anyone else is facing similar issues, I recommend checking out the Home Assistant community forums for detailed guides on certificate management. It’s a bit technical, but with patience, you can get it sorted out. Happy automating! ![]()
