Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Lutron Caseta with Home Assistant. It’s been a journey, but I’m thrilled with the results! ![]()
I recently moved into a house with a complex wiring setup—tons of 3-way switches and multiple loads in each room. The family room alone has 5 loads, 3 of which are 3-way switches! I knew I needed a smart lighting solution that could handle this complexity, and Lutron Caseta was highly recommended. I decided to go with the Lutron Caseta system, planning to use 4-button Pico remotes for scene control.
My goal was to create scenes that could be activated with a single press—on for one press and off for another. I also wanted an ‘All Off’ scene by the master bedroom and near each exit door. After some research, I found that the PJ2-4B-GXX-P01, P02, or P03 remotes could do this, but I was curious if the more affordable L01 model could achieve the same functionality. I reached out to the community for advice, and the response was amazing!
I discovered that while the L01 doesn’t natively support the exact functionality I wanted, integrating it with Home Assistant (HASS) allowed me to customize the buttons to act as on/off scene controllers. This meant I could press a button once to turn a scene on and again to turn it off. It was a bit of a workaround, but it worked perfectly!
One thing I was concerned about was the delay when using the Picos with HASS compared to using them natively. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the delay was minimal and didn’t affect the user experience. I also tested the L21 model, which worked seamlessly for ramping up and down the lights, adding a nice touch of elegance to the system.
The process involved a lot of trial and error, but with the help of the Home Assistant community, I managed to get everything set up flawlessly. It’s incredible how a little creativity and community support can turn a complex project into a smooth success.
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to everyone who provided guidance and shared their experiences. Your help made this project possible! ![]()
