I’ve been on a journey to integrate as many Zigbee and Z-Wave devices into my smart home setup as possible, and I wanted to share my experiences and tips with the community. ![]()
My Setup
I started with a Shelly Pro Plug and a CC2652P+CP2102N Zigbee Gateway, aiming to create a robust mesh network. My goal was to connect a variety of devices, including smart blinds, cameras, and sensors, all under one ecosystem. The challenge? Ensuring seamless communication and avoiding those frustrating timeouts! ![]()
The Process
-
Initial Setup: I began by setting up my Zigbee gateway and pairing a few devices. The Shelly plug was a breeze to integrate, and I loved how it worked seamlessly with my existing setup. However, when I added more devices, I noticed some instability—occasional disconnections and delayed responses.

-
Troubleshooting: After some research, I realized the issue was partly due to the placement of my gateway. Moving it to a central location in my home helped improve the mesh network significantly. I also updated all my devices to the latest firmware, which made a world of difference.

-
Device Management: Managing multiple devices can get overwhelming, so I started categorizing them in my HA dashboard. Using custom cards and templates has made navigating my system much easier. For instance, grouping all my Zigbee devices together helps me monitor their status at a glance.

Tips for Others
- Firmware Updates: Always keep your devices and gateway firmware up to date. It’s a simple step that can resolve many issues.
- Gateway Placement: Position your gateway in a central location to ensure optimal coverage.
- Device Grouping: Organize your devices in your dashboard for easier management.
Success Story
After tweaking my setup, I was able to successfully integrate over 20 devices without any major hiccups! The satisfaction of seeing everything work together smoothly is incredible. ![]()
