Successfully Integrating Music-Assistant with OpenHAB

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent success in integrating Music-Assistant with OpenHAB. For those who might not be familiar, Music-Assistant is an amazing open-source music server that’s highly customizable and supports a wide range of music services. I’ve been using it alongside OpenHAB to create a seamless smart home audio experience, and I thought I’d walk through how I got it all set up.First off, I started by installing Music-Assistant on my Raspberry Pi. The installation process was pretty straightforward, and I followed the official documentation to get it up and running. Once that was done, I focused on connecting it to OpenHAB. I discovered that there’s a community-driven binding available that allows OpenHAB to interact with Music-Assistant, making it easier to control playback through the OpenHAB interface. To get everything working smoothly, I created a few items in my OpenHAB configuration file. These items represent the different controls I wanted to have, such as play/pause, next track, previous track, and adjusting the volume. I also set up some rules to automate certain actions, like pausing the music when I leave the room or resuming it when I return. This integration has really taken my home audio setup to the next level. One of the best parts about this integration is the ability to create custom scenes. For example, I have a ‘Goodnight’ scene that lowers the volume, skips to a relaxing playlist, and sets the lights to a dim setting. It’s all controlled through OpenHAB, making it incredibly convenient.I’d love to hear from anyone else who has integrated Music-Assistant with OpenHAB or other smart home systems. What features or automations have you found particularly useful? Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need help getting started!
