Successfully Integrating SMA Devices with Home Assistant

I wanted to share my recent success in integrating SMA devices with Home Assistant. After spending considerable time researching and troubleshooting, I managed to set up my PV system seamlessly. Here’s a quick rundown of my journey:

Initially, I faced challenges with the default SMA integration, which didn’t recognize my devices. However, I discovered that using the Sunny Homemanager 2 alongside MQTT made the process much smoother. I installed the SMA EM application and configured it with my router’s static IP, disabling SSL for simplicity.

For the inverters, I utilized the Sunspec integration from HACS. Setting up each inverter involved entering their static IP, Modbus port 502, and Slave ID 126. The integration provided essential metrics like power consumption and supply, which were crucial for monitoring my system’s performance.

One hiccup I encountered was the inverter disconnecting at night, causing the Sunspec integration to stop. To resolve this, I created an automation that reloads the integration every 2 minutes if the inverter is offline and the sun is up. This ensures continuous monitoring without manual intervention.

I’m thrilled with how everything is now functioning. The setup allows me to track both my home’s energy consumption and the PV system’s output effectively. If anyone is looking to integrate SMA devices, I highly recommend exploring MQTT and Sunspec options—they were the key to my success!

Thanks to the supportive community for all the resources and guidance. Happy integrating everyone! :sun_with_face:
