I recently embarked on a project to integrate multiple smart lighting systems into my home, and I’m thrilled to share my experience! ![]()
The Challenge
I wanted to combine LED lights, motorcycle lighting, and Govee smart lights into one cohesive system. The goal was to create a seamless user experience where I could control everything from my phone or voice commands. However, setting this up wasn’t without its hurdles.
The Solution
After some research and trial and error, I decided to use Shelly Wave devices alongside Home Assistant (HA). The Shelly Pro 1 proved to be a game-changer for managing my Wechselrichter (inverter) system, especially with the new Austrian regulations requiring potential-free switching. By configuring the Shelly devices to work with HA, I was able to automate the shutdown process efficiently.
For the LED and Govee lights, I utilized the built-in scenes in HA to create preset lighting modes. This allowed me to transition between different lighting scenarios with ease. I also integrated my Sonos speakers into the system, ensuring that music could play seamlessly across all rooms while the lights adjusted accordingly.
Tips and Tricks
- Start Small: Begin with one room or one type of device to get a feel for the system before scaling up.
- Use Scenes: Scenes in HA are incredibly powerful. They allow you to automate complex tasks with minimal setup.
- Regular Updates: Keep your firmware and software updated to ensure compatibility and security.
- Community Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to forums like this one for help. The community is incredibly supportive and knowledgeable!
The Outcome
The result is a home that’s not only more energy-efficient but also incredibly convenient. I can now control my lighting, music, and even my inverter system with just a few taps on my phone. It’s been a fantastic journey, and I’m excited to see how much further I can take this setup!
