I’ve been on a mission to make my home smarter and more energy-efficient, and I’m thrilled to share my journey! ![]()
After researching various options, I decided to go with Agunto AGU-SP1 smart plugs and MR24HPC1 mmWave sensors. The goal was to automate lighting and reduce energy waste. Here’s how I did it:
Setup and Configuration
- Hardware Setup: I connected the smart plugs to my ESP32C3 Supermini and integrated the mmWave sensors to detect motion. The ESPHome configuration was a breeze, and the sensors are now up and running in Home Assistant.
- Automation Rules: I set up automations to turn lights on when motion is detected and turn them off after a period of inactivity. This has significantly reduced unnecessary energy usage.
Challenges and Solutions
Initially, I faced some hurdles with sensor states showing as “Unknown”. After some troubleshooting, I realized it was a UART communication issue. Adjusting the baud rate and ensuring stable power supply resolved the problem. ![]()
Results and Satisfaction
Seeing everything work seamlessly is incredibly satisfying! The smart plugs and motion sensors have transformed my living space. Not only do they save energy, but they also add a touch of convenience. For example, the hallway lights now automatically adjust based on foot traffic, making late-night trips much safer. ![]()
