Successfully Integrating Tydom with Google Home: A Step-by-Step Journey

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I wanted to share my recent experience integrating my Tydom system with Google Home. It was a bit of a challenge, but I learned a lot along the way, and I hope this helps someone else out there. The Setup I recently moved into a house that already had a Tydom/Delta Dore system installed, controlling the spotlights. While I love the idea of a centralized smart home system, I was excited to see if I could integrate it with Google Home for more seamless control. After some research, I found that Tydom can connect with Google Home through their app, but I stumbled upon a roadblock when trying to pull these devices into SmartThings directly. The Challenge My main goal was to have all my devices, including the Tydom-controlled spotlights, accessible through SmartThings. However, it seemed that SmartThings couldn’t pull the devices directly from Google Home. I spent hours searching forums and documentation, trying different workarounds, but nothing seemed to work. It was frustrating, but I knew I wasn’t alone in this struggle. The Solution After reaching out to the community, I received some fantastic advice. One user suggested using IFTTT (now Make.com) to bridge the gap between Google Home and SmartThings. Here’s a quick rundown of what worked for me: 1. Connect Tydom to Google Home: This part was straightforward. I simply followed Tydom’s setup guide to link the two platforms. 2. Set Up IFTTT Applets: I created applets that mirrored the states of my Tydom devices in Google Home. For example, when a spotlight turns on in Google Home, the applet updates a corresponding virtual device in SmartThings. 3. Use SmartThings Routines: With the virtual devices in place, I could finally create routines that included my Tydom spotlights alongside my other smart devices. Lessons Learned This experience taught me the power of community and the importance of thinking outside the box when it comes to smart home integration. While direct integration wasn’t possible, using IFTTT as a middleware solution was a lifesaver. Tips for Others - Research First: Spend time exploring forums and documentation before diving into complex setups. - Leverage Middleware: Tools like IFTTT can be incredibly helpful in bridging gaps between platforms. - Experiment Safely: Don’t be afraid to try new things, but always have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. I’m now enjoying a fully integrated smart home setup, and it feels amazing to have all my devices working together seamlessly. Huge thanks to everyone in the community who shared their knowledge and helped me along the way! Happy integrating, and if you have any questions or tips, feel free to drop them below! :rocket:
