Successfully Integrating Washer and Dryer with Alexa

I recently purchased a Samsung WA54M8750A washer and dryer and decided to integrate them with my Alexa setup. The process was a bit challenging at first, but I managed to get everything working smoothly. Here’s how I did it and some tips for anyone looking to do the same!

First, I connected both appliances to the SmartThings app. The setup was straightforward, and I didn’t encounter any issues during the initial pairing. However, when I tried to discover the devices through the Alexa app, they didn’t show up immediately. After some research, I realized that I needed to ensure the SmartThings skill was properly linked with Alexa.

I followed these steps:

  1. Opened the Alexa app and navigated to the ‘Smart Home’ section.
  2. Selected ‘Add a Device’ and chose ‘SmartThings’ as the brand.
  3. Made sure the SmartThings skill was enabled in the Alexa settings.
  4. Rebooted both the washer and dryer to ensure a stable connection.

After a few minutes, the devices appeared in my Alexa app! Now, I can start my laundry cycle with just a voice command, which is incredibly convenient. It’s amazing how integrating these devices has simplified my routine.

For anyone else attempting this, I recommend double-checking the skill links and ensuring all devices are on the same network. If you run into issues, reaching out to the community forums can be really helpful. Happy integrating!
