Successfully Integrating Wyze Cam V3 and Shelly Switches with Tasmota

I’ve been on quite the journey over the past few months trying to get my smart home setup just right, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips that might help others who are just starting out or looking to enhance their systems.

First off, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with my Wyze Cam V3. The video quality is top-notch, and the motion tracking feature is something that really sets it apart. I’ve set it up to monitor my backyard, and it’s been a huge help in keeping an eye on things while I’m away. However, there was one issue that had me puzzled for a bit. I noticed that if I stepped away from the Wyze app, even just to answer a call, the continuous recording would stop. After some research and reaching out to the community, I found out that this is a known limitation. To work around it, I now make sure to keep the app in the foreground when I need continuous recording. It’s a small inconvenience, but it’s manageable.

On the other hand, my Shelly switches have been a game-changer. I’ve integrated them with Tasmota, and the ease of use and reliability have been outstanding. I’ve grouped several switches together to control my outdoor lighting, and setting up scenes has made managing everything so much simpler. For example, I have a scene that turns on all the lights around my house with a single command, which is perfect for when I’m coming home in the dark.

One thing I’ve learned is the importance of a stable network setup. I have a mesh Wi-Fi system, and while it’s generally reliable, I did notice some delays when controlling my devices through the Home Assistant dashboard. After some troubleshooting, I realized that ensuring all my devices were on the same network segment made a big difference. It’s a small tweak, but it’s made my system much more responsive.

I also wanted to give a shoutout to the amazing community support I’ve received. Whether it’s finding solutions to issues or getting advice on the best way to set something up, the forums have been an invaluable resource. If you’re just starting out, don’t hesitate to ask questions and share your experiences. You’d be surprised at how helpful and supportive everyone is.

In terms of tips, I’d recommend taking the time to thoroughly test each device and integration before fully committing to it. It might seem time-consuming, but it’s worth it to avoid any headaches down the line. Also, don’t be afraid to experiment with different configurations and settings. Some of my most useful automations came about from just trying things out and seeing what worked best for my setup.

Overall, setting up my smart home has been a rewarding experience. It’s made my life more convenient, and it’s given me a newfound appreciation for the potential of smart technology. I’m excited to see what the future holds and how I can continue to enhance my system even further. Thanks to everyone who’s contributed to making this possible!
