Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with migrating my Hue devices to a new Wi-Fi network. It was a bit of a challenge at first, but I figured it out and thought I’d document the process for anyone else going through the same thing.
So, here’s the setup: I had my Hue Bridge and several Hue Essentials devices connected to a 2.4 GHz network. Recently, our housing cooperative upgraded to a new 5 GHz network, and I wanted to switch everything over to the new setup. The goal was to have all my smart devices on the same network as my phone and laptop, without having to switch between Wi-Fi connections every time I wanted to use the Hue app.
At first, I was a bit overwhelmed. I read through some forums and even reached out to Philips support, but the instructions weren’t entirely clear. After some trial and error, here’s what worked for me:
-
Unplug and Reset: I unplugged the Hue Bridge from the power source and waited for 10 seconds before plugging it back in. This reset the bridge and allowed it to connect to the new network.
-
Reconfigure the Hue App: After resetting the bridge, I opened the Hue app and went through the setup process again. This time, I made sure the app was connected to the new 5 GHz network.
-
Network Settings: I checked the Hue Bridge’s settings in the app and ensured that it was set to connect to the new network. I also made sure that the bridge was in the same subnet as my other devices.
-
Test Connections: Once everything was set up, I tested the connections by turning lights on and off through the app. Everything worked smoothly, and I didn’t have to switch between networks anymore!
This process saved me a lot of frustration, and I thought I’d share it in case anyone else is dealing with a similar situation. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking to switch networks, but with a little patience and trial and error, it’s definitely doable.
If anyone has any questions or tips for improving this process, I’d love to hear them! Happy automating! ![]()
