I recently installed two Leviton RF+ dimming switches to support Z-Wave beaming in my basement. The VRMX1-1L replaced a single-pole switch, while the VRCZ1-1LZ 3-way RF controller was installed at the bottom of the staircase. The goal was to eliminate the need for a red traveler wire and enable 3-way functionality using Z-Wave RF control. However, the instructions only mentioned adding the switches to a central Vizia RF+ controller, which wasn’t my preference. Instead, I wanted to use a Z-Wave hub for integration with my existing smart home ecosystem.
After some research and experimentation, I found a reliable method to pair the Vizia RF+ switches with my Z-Wave hub. Here’s what worked for me:
-
Ensure Z-Wave Hub Compatibility: Verify that your Z-Wave hub supports Z-Wave Plus, as this ensures better range and reliability for RF+ devices.
-
Reset Both Switches: Before attempting to pair, reset both switches to factory settings. This ensures a clean slate for the new configuration.
-
Put the Hub into Inclusion Mode: Follow your hub’s instructions to enter inclusion mode. This allows the hub to discover and pair new devices.
-
Pair the First Switch: Start by pairing the master switch (VRMX1-1L) with the hub. Follow the hub’s on-screen prompts to complete the process.
-
Pair the Second Switch: Once the first switch is successfully paired, repeat the process for the second switch (VRCZ1-1LZ). The hub should recognize it as a secondary controller for the 3-way setup.
-
Test the Configuration: After pairing both switches, test the 3-way functionality to ensure they work seamlessly together. Adjust any settings in the hub’s interface if needed.
This setup has been working perfectly for me, providing reliable 3-way dimming without the need for additional wiring. If anyone has questions or needs further assistance, feel free to reach out! Happy automating! ![]()
