After spending several days troubleshooting the AEOTEC ZW089 recessed door sensor integration with my openHAB setup, I wanted to share my journey and the solution I found. Initially, I was frustrated because the sensor wasn’t providing door status updates, despite other Z-Wave devices working perfectly. I reached out to the openHAB community and did a lot of research, which led me to discover that the issue was related to the association groups not being properly configured.
I tried adjusting the association groups through both the PaperUI and HABMIN interfaces, but the settings didn’t persist. This was really puzzling! However, I didn’t give up. I kept digging through logs and found security errors related to nonces. After some more research, I realized that the Z-Wave controller needed to be a member of the device’s association group for state and battery updates.
I decided to manually set the association groups using the Z-Wave binding configuration. This time, I made sure to follow the exact steps recommended in the community thread I found. To my delight, it worked! The door sensor started sending updates, and the errors in the logs disappeared.
This experience taught me the importance of checking association groups and understanding nonce errors in Z-Wave devices. It also highlighted how invaluable the openHAB community is for troubleshooting and learning. I hope sharing my story can help others facing similar issues. Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
