Successfully Resolving Reolink Camera PTZ Position Issues

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Reolink 823S1 camera and how I managed to resolve an issue that was quite puzzling at first. For those who might not be familiar, I’ve been using this camera for about two months now, primarily for monitoring my backyard. It’s been a great addition to my smart home setup, offering excellent video quality and smooth PTZ controls.

Initially, I set up two PTZ presets—one for daytime use and another for nighttime. This allowed me to switch between different camera angles depending on the time of day, which was incredibly convenient. However, about two weeks ago, I noticed something odd. The camera started behaving unpredictably, changing its zoom and focus settings without any apparent trigger. This was frustrating because it disrupted the seamless operation I had grown accustomed to.

After some research and troubleshooting, I discovered that the issue wasn’t with the camera itself but rather how the presets were interacting with each other. The camera was inadvertently applying settings from one preset to the other, leading to unexpected changes. To address this, I decided to take a more hands-on approach. Instead of relying solely on the presets, I started manually adjusting the focus and zoom settings each time I switched between the day and night modes. This method proved to be effective, though it felt a bit like a workaround rather than a permanent solution.

However, I wasn’t ready to settle for a temporary fix. I reached out to the Reolink support team and shared my experience. They were incredibly helpful and provided some insights into the firmware and how the PTZ settings are managed. It turns out that the firmware version I was using had a minor bug that could cause unexpected behavior in certain scenarios. After updating to the latest firmware, the issue was resolved, and the camera returned to its reliable performance.

This experience taught me the importance of keeping firmware up to date and not hesitating to reach out for support when facing technical challenges. It also highlighted the value of persistence and a methodical approach to problem-solving. I’m now back to enjoying the smooth operation of my Reolink camera, and I hope this story can help others who might encounter similar issues.

If anyone has questions or needs advice on setting up or troubleshooting their Reolink cameras, feel free to ask! I’m happy to share what I’ve learned.

Best regards,
Danny
