Successfully Setting Up a Static IP Address for Samsung TV

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with setting up a static IP address for my Samsung TV connected to Hubitat. Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed by all the technical terms like subnet masks and gateways, but I managed to figure it out with some research and patience.

First, I realized that my TV was occasionally disconnecting because I hadn’t set a static IP. I knew I needed to assign a fixed IP, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it. After some digging, I found that I could access my router’s settings through its web interface. Once there, I navigated to the DHCP settings and reserved an IP address for my TV using its MAC address.

The confusion came when I encountered terms like subnet mask and gateway. I quickly learned that the subnet mask is typically 255.255.255.0, and the gateway is usually the router’s IP, which is often 192.168.1.1. I also set the DNS servers to Google’s public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) for better stability.

After saving the settings, I restarted my TV and router. Everything connected smoothly, and the occasional disconnections were a thing of the past! It was such a relief to finally get it working without issues.

For anyone else struggling with this, my advice is to take it step by step and don’t hesitate to look up each part of the process. Understanding the basics of networking really helps in troubleshooting such issues. Happy setting up everyone! :rocket:
