Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent success in setting up local recordings with my Arlo Pro 5S cameras. I’ve been trying to get this working for a while now, and I thought I’d document my journey in case it helps someone else.
The Challenge:
I have three Arlo Pro 5S cameras and a Smart Hub (VMB 4540) set up on my network. I don’t have a subscription and wanted to avoid one, but I still needed to view recordings locally. I plugged in a USB drive into the smart hub and turned on local recordings, but nothing was happening. The app would notify me of motion, but no recordings were saved. I was really puzzled and a bit frustrated.
The Solution:
After some research and trial and error, I figured out what was going wrong. Here’s what I did:
-
Check the USB Drive:
- Ensure the USB drive is formatted correctly. I reformatted mine as exFAT, which Arlo supports.
- Make sure the drive isn’t full. I freed up some space just in case.
-
Update Firmware:
- I updated the firmware on both the cameras and the hub. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause issues.
-
Reconfigure Settings:
- I went into the Arlo app and double-checked the local recording settings. I made sure it was set to record on all cameras and that the USB drive was selected as the storage location.
-
Test with Motion:
- I created some motion in front of the cameras to test. This time, the recordings started appearing on the USB drive!
The Outcome:
It’s working perfectly now! I can access all my local recordings directly from the USB drive, and the app notifies me whenever something is recorded. It’s such a relief to have this sorted out.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re having trouble with local recordings, don’t panic. Take it step by step, check your drive and firmware, and make sure your settings are correct. It might take a bit of time, but it’s definitely doable!
If anyone has any questions or needs help with their setup, feel free to ask. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned!
Best regards,
