I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart home automation, and I’m thrilled to share my success story with the community! 
After spending hours researching and experimenting, I managed to set up a seamless lighting automation system using Hubitat. My goal was to create a system that would automatically adjust the lights based on sunrise and sunset times, as well as account for my family’s daily routines. Here’s how I did it:

I learned about the importance of accurate sunrise and sunset data, which Hubitat pulls from an external API. This ensures that my lights adjust precisely when the sun rises or sets, even during seasonal changes.

Setting Up the Scenes: I created two main scenes: one for morning wake-up and another for evening relaxation. The morning scene gradually increases the brightness of my bedroom lights over 15 minutes, mimicking a natural sunrise. The evening scene dims the lights in the living area to a cozy level, perfect for unwinding after a long day.

Incorporating Family Routines: To make the system even smarter, I integrated it with my family’s routines. For instance, if my kids are still asleep, the system waits an extra 30 minutes before fully turning on the lights. This flexibility was key to ensuring the automation fits seamlessly into our daily lives.

Testing and Tweaking: Nothing works perfectly on the first try, and that’s okay! I spent a week testing different settings, adjusting the timing and brightness levels to find the perfect balance. It was a bit trial and error, but each tweak brought me closer to the ideal setup.

The Result: The end result is nothing short of amazing. My mornings are now greeted with a gentle light that helps me wake up naturally, and evenings are filled with a warm, inviting ambiance.
