Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience upgrading my Wyze Cam Pan to the RTSP firmware. I’ve been trying to get this done for a while now, and I finally figured it out! Hopefully, this helps someone else who’s been struggling with the same issue. So, first off, I was really excited about the idea of using RTSP firmware on my Wyze Cam Pan. I’ve heard so many great things about how it improves performance and compatibility with other systems. But, let me tell you, the process wasn’t exactly straightforward. I kept running into this issue where, after holding down the setup button, I’d get the “Ready to connect” prompt, but nothing else seemed to happen. Frustrating, right?I did a bit of research and found that a lot of people were having similar problems. Some mentioned issues with the firmware file name, while others talked about the placement of the camera during the update process. I decided to try everything I could think of, just to cover all bases. Here’s what worked for me:1. Firmware File Preparation: I downloaded the RTSP firmware from the official Wyze developer portal. Once it was downloaded, I made sure to unzip it and rename the file to demo.bin. I read somewhere that the file name needs to be exactly demo.bin for the update to work properly. I’m not sure if that’s a hard requirement, but it worked for me.2. Camera Placement: I placed my Wyze Cam Pan on a flat surface, making sure it was stable and wouldn’t tip over during the update. I also ensured that the camera was facing away from any direct light sources, as I heard that could interfere with the process.3. Setup Button Holding: I held down the setup button on the bottom of the camera for exactly 10 seconds. I timed it using my phone’s stopwatch to be precise. After releasing the button, the camera’s LED started blinking rapidly, which I think is a good sign.4. Connecting to Wi-Fi: I quickly connected the camera to my Wi-Fi network using the Wyze app. I’ve read that the camera needs to be online during the firmware update process, so I made sure it was connected before proceeding.5. Firmware Update: Once the camera was online, I navigated to the settings in the Wyze app and initiated the firmware update. I selected the demo.bin file I had prepared earlier and waited for the update to complete. It took a few minutes, but eventually, I got a confirmation that the update was successful.6. Post-Update Checks: After the update, I restarted the camera and checked if it was working as expected. I was thrilled to see that the RTSP stream was now accessible, and the camera was functioning smoothly.I want to give a big shoutout to the Wyze community forums and Reddit groups for all the helpful tips and troubleshooting advice. Without their guidance, I might still be stuck trying to figure this out.If anyone else is having trouble with their Wyze Cam Pan RTSP firmware upgrade, feel free to reach out, and I’ll do my best to help. Happy hacking everyone! ![]()
