Successfully Using Google Home Commands to Mute and Unmute Devices

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my success in using Google Home commands to mute and unmute devices, which has been a game-changer for my setup. I’ve been using Home Assistant and Google Home/Nest Minis for voice control, and I stumbled upon this feature that allows the ‘Hey Google’ command to trigger scripts or automations in Home Assistant. This was exactly what I needed to improve the functionality of my smart home setup.I’ve been using a Broadlink IR device to control my non-smart TV and stereo. The challenge was to ensure that the Google Home device could better understand the next command, especially when the TV or stereo audio was playing. By muting these devices when the ‘Hey Google’ command is triggered, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the clarity of voice commands. Here’s how I set it up: I configured an automation in Home Assistant that triggers when the ‘Hey Google’ command is detected. This automation then sends a signal to my Broadlink IR device to either mute or unmute the TV and stereo. The setup was a bit tricky at first, but with some research and testing, it worked perfectly.I’d like to thank the community for the wealth of information and support. Without the forums and tutorials, I wouldn’t have been able to figure this out. It’s amazing how a small tweak can make such a big difference in the user experience. I hope this helps someone else looking to enhance their smart home setup! If anyone has questions or needs help setting something similar up, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to share more details or troubleshoot together. Happy automating! :rocket:
