Suggestion for a recessed Aqara door sensor that mounts invisibly inside the door frame with Matter over Thread

Hi Aqara Team and Community,

I’d like to suggest a hidden/recessed door sensor that can be installed directly inside the door frame, similar to solutions from other brands, but with Matter over Thread support for modern smart home integration.

Concept:

  • Sensor body hidden inside the door frame — completely invisible from the outside.
  • Magnet part mounted inside the door leaf.
  • Uses Matter over Thread for fast response, long battery life, and broad compatibility.
  • Designed to be weather-resistant for use on exterior doors if needed.

Why it’s useful:

  • Aesthetically cleaner — no visible sensor or magnet on the door surface.
  • More secure installation — less prone to tampering.
  • Thread ensures stable connection without relying on Wi-Fi range.
  • Works with Apple Home, Google Home, and other Matter-enabled platforms out of the box.

I believe such a product would appeal to many homeowners who value both aesthetics and modern smart home compatibility.

This would be really cool. I know Abode has something like this, but I don’t think it supports Matter over Thread

This. Also a hidden door lock. I don’t want to look at an ugly plastic door lock on Victorian door, I want to use and see my own door furniture.

I did this myself with the current contact sensor

I routed a recess in the top of my door for the sensor, and drilled a magnet into the frame which I then covered with wood filler and painted.
